38810 more liberal Passover Pesach lasts 7 days:
WITH
FIRST AND LAST DAYS BEING
OBSERVED AS FULL FESTIVAL DAYS.
Throughout this period most Liberal Jews abstain
from eating ordinary bread & substitute
unleavened bread (MATZOT), but they normally do not feel the need
to change the crockery & cutlery, etc.
Candles are lit in the home on the first evening and the last evening
& the Shabbath-blessing may be used with one slight alteration - replace
the last word SHABBATH with YOM-TOV (festival).
A SEDER is held in the home on the first evening, and often a Congregational Seder
is held in the Synagogue for those who, for various reasons, are not able to hold one
in their own homes.
SEDER? “Order” of Procedure:
it can be described as a sort or kind of combination of worship,
banqueting, symbolism, religious history, table-songs etcetera, bound
all together now into Òne Únity!
It is read from a special book called a HAGADAH (“story”).
The whole of a family ànd as many friends as possible assemble around the table,
at which they are permitted to lean (probably a Roman influence emphasizing “FREEDOM”),
and the head of the table sits on cushions (for the same reason)?!
Plates are placed on the table containing a number of symbolic ceremonial items as follows:
~ on one plate there are three cakes of unleavened bread {MATZOT} Aanmelden the “HASTE”
in which the Israelites left AeGYPT & thus having no time to bake the ordinary leaven bread.
And on the other plate there are: roasted lamb-bone {“Paschal Lamb”};
roasted egg {“Spring” fertility or festival burnt-offering}; bitter herbs such as
horseradish {“Bitter” life of the Israelite slaves};
parsley {reminding us of Nature & the Harvest origin};
salt water {“Tears” òf the slaves &/or dipping of AeGYPTians in the Red Sea water};
CHAROSHET ~ brown paste made out of nuts, raisins, cinnamon, wine, apple {looks like the ‘MORTAR’ with which the Israelites built the store-houses for Pharaoh}!
During the course of the evening
4 glasses of wine are drunk by each individual (corresponding
to the usual Roman Freeman’s customary procedure?
MODERN MÉANING & SIGNIFICANCE of this jewish festival teaches us
that as Jews we all should also be in the forefront of those who oppose tyranny (Assyrian/Babylonian/Persian/Greek/Roman ànd so on) & that we always should defend
the right of all human beings to the fullest possible Freedom independent
of their race, color,
nationality or creed!
We must also learn to “LOVE THE STRANGER,
for WE WERE ALSO STRANGERS IN THE LAND OF AEGYPT”!
We should also seek, through the lively inspiration of this Festival,
to “FREE OURSELVES” òf all those tyrannies
which enslave the mind
& spirit
of mankind, such as bigotry, prejudice, envy, greed, cruelty,
colonialism, warfare, suppression
& brainwashing~!!!
