Moving up
So, all my friends and my band teacher thinks I should challenge J (challenging is when two people perform a song, and whoever gets more votes goes up a chair, 1st chair means you get first part, 3rd chair you get 2nd part, etc.). Right now I am last chair, I managed to be the only clarinetist to not have taken advanced band before (I was in intermediate last year). Which means I get 3rd part every single time! I have to have the lowest most boring part in every one of my pieces. J is in the chair next to me, which is a problem, don't guys hate bein beaten by girls? And I don't want either of us to be embarrassed when beaten. I don't know if it will make it awkward between us. Help? I can't decide which is more important, moving up in band or still being able to have comfortable conversations with J.
