great is often a positive additive, and when reading history it is used as such in this context.
he was a great conquerer of the roman empire.
which is to say he conquered many lands and people for the benefit of the roman empire.
this he did with force.
a war lord so to say !
but if i read correct regarding terrorism,

En jij bekritiseerd mensen omdat ze niet factchecken of hun geschiedenis niet kennen?
Je zit er gelukkig maar een paar eeuwen naast. Alexander was een Macedoniër en sticher van het Hellenistische rijk.
Hij stierf in de 4e eeuw BC, het romeinse rijk was toen nog een kleine stadsstaat en trad pas buiten Italië ruim 2 eeuwen later... -
