First Diary Entry

Hey everyone,

I'm not really sure as to how I should write diary entries, so bear with me knipoog. I suppose I'll tell a little about myself first. I'm a 17-year old boy from a dutch island called Ameland. I'm currently going to a school in the city though, so I commute to the city of Leeuwarden every week. I go to the island on friday afternoon, after school, and I return to Leeuwarden on Sunday evening. I do so with a couple of mates from the island, one of them, Daniel, lives in the same house as I do in Leeuwarden, the other two are brother and sister (Kevin and Kayleigh) and live together in a house near the station. On sunday evening we always travel together by ferry, bus and lastly by foot to their house where we play Halo or watch TV untill me and my housemate decide to go home (or get kicked out, but that's a different story, haha).
As for the house I live in; I already told you about my mate from the island (His mother owns the place, so I'm renting the room from her.). Besides me and Daniel, there's Otto (a pretty responsible guy with his own car. He's only a few years older then us but seems to have travelled the world while serving on a ship) and Lonneke (A girl from a southern province, Brabant, who'se come to Leeuwarden for studies). There was another girl untill recently, Jantine, but she left to go live somewhere else in the city. Her room is now up for rent, I can't wait to see who's going to be our new housemate.

Okay, so aside from my situation, I think I should write a little about my hobbies. I like to watch Animé, read and Manga (Yeah, I'm a Japanofile alright. I think I'll upload some of my drawings later.), listen to music (duh), play games, sailing and some other small stuff that's either not worth mentioning or I'm not remembering them. I've also always been interested in the universe, conspiracy theories, technology, the future and pretty much anything else on the Discovery Channel or National Geographic. I don't see myself as a typical nerd (as in glasses, nerdy speech, extensive knowledge of pc hardware and software and fluent in multiple coding languages) and I don't think anyone I know does. I like to go my own way where possible. I try to make friends where I can and not belong to just one "group" of friends. I don't think of myself as "normal" (I could probably write a whole entry on the definition of normal alone, but let's not do that for now, haha), but then again, the better [you think] you know someone, the less they seem to fit in your definition of "normal". Right?

But anyway (*Realises he's beginning to explain the definition of normal anyway and changes the subject*), one major factor in my live has been this game called RuneScape. You might've heard of it. Now, the major thing about it isn't the game itself, but the clan I joined after playing for quite a while (+- April 2006). I discovered I had some talent for leading and became a "Counciller" (Which was the second-highest rank at that time) after a few months. Over the past four years, I think I've become somewhat adept at reading between the lines, finding peoples afterlying motives and quickly thinking of arguments to counter their statements. Another good side-effect is that the everything is in english (Which isn't my native language), so I've always had a huge advantage on my classmates when it comes to english. All in all, people tend to see games purely as entertainment, where they can be so much more. I've learnt alot in the past few years, mainly because it was actually pretty good fun to have discussions over one of the many problems the clan has. And we all know learning is so much easier when the subject is interesting.

Um, I should probably call it a day for now. Tomorrow I'll have to get up early because my first class starts in the first period (English >.> ). One of my teachers was absent today and yesterday because of a relative or friend of his died, so I'm guessing he won't be in tomorrow either (Pretty sad actually. The same teacher lost his mother and sister not too long ago, which also caused him to be absent for a while earlier this year.) That would mean I'd be free in my second period and the last two periods. I still got loads of reports to hand in (I'm a first-class procrastinator extraordinaire) and there's a good chance I won't be able to advance to the next year so I'd probably be doing some schoolwork anyway ;_;. On an unrelated, though on the same time slightly related, sidenote; I'm not really worried about not advancing this year. I'm currently on an education level that prepares you for university, but I was thinking I'd rather not go there (Waaaay to timeconsuming and the job I'd get afterwards is probably going to be boring as hell). Might as well just go to a lower educational level (I'm on VWO now, so one step lower would be HAVO. No Idea what the english/american equivalents of those levels are, but VWO is the highest and HAVO is the second-highest education level on dutch high schools. Look it up on wiki if you really, really want to.) and take it easy, right?

uh yeah, so that's that. If you read through everything, you earned my respect knipoog. I might log in tomorrow to write about my day (not because it's so wildly entertaining to others to read about my daily live, but more to keep track of what's been happening so I can read back on it later. Of course, I'd still love to recieve comments knipoog

See you guys later,
- Danny
